Vice President Jen Eyer to Head Communications For Whitmer Campaign
Vanguard Public Affairs today announced that Vice President Jen Eyer has planned a leave of absence to lead communications for former Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer’s recently announced Michigan gubernatorial campaign.
Whitmer, who announced her campaign for Governor Tuesday, is seen by many in Lansing circles as the front runner for the Democratic Party’s nomination for Governor in August 2018. Eyer will serve as Whitmer’s campaign communications director.
“We believe Jen Eyer is one of the most qualified professionals in Michigan to lead communications for Senator Whitmer’s campaign, and she will be instrumental in running an innovative, groundbreaking effort rooted in the best 21st century digital practices available for political campaigns today,” said TJ Bucholz, President and Chief Executive Officer for Vanguard Public Affairs. “When the campaign is completed, our work will continue together, but for an effort of this magnitude, it is important for Jen to focus on serving Gretchen Whitmer exclusively.”
As an integral member of the Vanguard organization, Eyer will remain engaged with several clients and other business affairs important to the company’s growth as time permits, Bucholz said.
Eyer has spent a little less than one year at the company, but has already brought significant value to Vanguard Public Affairs, spearheading media relations for former Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lon Johnson’s run for Congress in the First District, along with other projects currently underway.
Well known in the media community, Eyer has more than 15 years of journalism and communications experience, including serving as the opinion-editorial voice of the MLive chain of newspapers across Michigan for three consecutive years.
Jen has been working in digital news media since its inception in the 1990s. Since 2000, she has held a variety of leadership positions with MLive, and from 2010 to 2016 served as director of engagement — first for AnnArbor.com, then for MLive Media Group — overseeing the company’s editorial board, social media and reader engagement strategies.
