Vanguard Public Affairs Hires Chief Strategist, Three New Manager Level Staff, Promotes One

Vanguard Public Affairs is announcing the hire of four new staff members and the promotion of one, bringing a new group of talented practitioners to the table as the company continues its growth in the Michigan marketplace.

Abby Clark, who joins Vanguard as the company’s chief strategist, has spent over a decade working on political and advocacy campaigns across the country. Prior to joining Vanguard, she was campaign manager for Pat Miles for Michigan Attorney General.

“Abby’s wide range of experiences, sharp strategic mind, and political instincts make her a perfect fit here at Vanguard,” said Vanguard Public Affairs President and CEO TJ Bucholz. “While she has already made an impact with our roster of clients, Abby’s national connections will position our company as a leader in the Midwest in both the political and non-profit realms.”

In addition to staffing the last three Democratic presidential campaigns, Abby has worked with high profile political candidates, organizations, and commentators nationally, including US Senator Elizabeth Warren, Van Jones, and the Pew Charitable Trusts. She has also worked on numerous Congressional and Senate campaigns around the country.

Clark, 36, is a graduate of the University of Michigan, majoring in Political Science. She has completed additional studies at Northwestern University and the London School of Economics. A Lansing native, Clark is a graduate of East Lansing High School.

Bucholz, a proud Central Michigan University alumnus, also has chosen to hire three new staff members from his alma mater, two of them graduates of the school’s Integrated Public Relations program.

“Although our new team has only been together for a month or two, they have hit the ground running and are already adding significant value for our current and prospective clients,” Bucholz said. “Our staff roster is one of the most versatile in Lansing – and with our added capabilities to do video, animation, motion, and graphic design in-house, I believe we’re very competitive with any firm currently working in Michigan.”

Rachel Felice, a 2016 CMU graduate, will serve as Communications Manager. Felice, 24, is a metro Detroit native and has previously worked at Franco Public Relations in Detroit and has experiences working with statewide political candidates for office. She also worked during college as Vice President of PR Central – CMU’s student-run public relations firm.

Mariah Prowoznik, a 2015 CMU graduate, will serve as Branding Coordinator. Prowoznik, 26, is a Grand Rapids native and recent transplant from Traverse City. She previously worked at Knorr Marketing, a Traverse City-based marketing firm, and was a staff member at the Traverse City Record-Eagle. Although initially trained as a graphic designer, Prowoznik was appointed as the first non-journalism student Editor-In-Chief of the renowned independent student newspaper, Central Michigan Life.

Allie Marsh, a 2018 CMU graduate, is Vanguard’s most recent hire and will serve as Digital Media Coordinator. Marsh, 23, brings a wealth of skills to the table in the digital and creative realm, creating posters, infographics, brochures, billboards, social media platforms, professional videos, photography, and motion graphics. Marsh graduated Magna Cum Laude, where she majored in Fine Arts with a concentration in graphic design with public relations experience.

Natalie Scalabrino, a Grand Rapids native and graduate of Central Michigan University who has been with Vanguard since 2017, has been promoted to Senior Communications Manager. Scalabrino, 24, manages digital media platforms for a wide array of Vanguard clients in the non-profit space.

As part of her responsibilities, Scalabrino oversees Vanguard’s associate level staff, which will include three staff members for the summer. Joey Minghine just completed his freshman year at Eastern Michigan University, Terzah Dyer will begin at Central Michigan University in the fall as a junior, and Luke Bucholz, son of the firm’s founder, starts as a freshman in August at Michigan State University’s James Madison College.
