Make the most out of your commute
It takes right around an hour to get from Grand Rapids to Lansing, and I make that drive every day getting to work. It’s also at least 60 minutes that I’m away from my computer and not regularly checking my phone -- but that doesn’t mean that hour can’t be productive.
I always try to get the most out of my morning commute in order to start my day off right. Here are some ideas on what to do to increase productivity on your way to work:
Get caught up on the news
Tune in to NPR or your favorite talk radio station and find out what you missed overnight. From local information to international news, it’s important to know what’s going on in your world. No matter what you do for a living, you can always benefit from being informed.
Plan your day
Take a few minutes to think about your day ahead. When you walk into your office, you should know what needs to get done that day and what your top priorities are. Creating a game plan is one of the best ways to ensure productivity.
Learn something new
There are podcasts and audiobooks out there for just about anything. Find a topic that piques your personal or professional interest and listen. Get your brain actively working and learn something new in the process.
Our Digital Media Manager Allie Marsh recently wrote a blog about ways to find inspiration in your work. One of her suggestions was to change your environment and focus on the new details in your surroundings. While you are heading to work, take in the changing scenery. You never know what you might notice or where you will draw inspiration from.
