Tell us about your role at Vanguard
I feel lucky to have been part of Vanguard Public Affairs from the very beginning. We will celebrate the firm’s fifth anniversary on May 19! As Vanguard has grown, I have taken on more responsibilities. My job as Chief Operating Officer is somewhat like being a train conductor. I work to make sure all of the trains are on time and that we are prepared, so we don’t go off the tracks! I’m responsible for ensuring that our operations are efficient and effective. We have a great team of Vanguardians who are always willing to pitch in to assist each other if needed. I try to make sure no one is too overloaded and that everyone has the resources they need to get the job done. Quality is essential to me and we always aim for perfection! I do a lot of project management, report writing and strategic communication planning for clients. I also work closely with our education clients since I have more than 30 years of experience in school public relations. I LOVE my job!
How do you define success?
The definition of success is when preparation and opportunity meet! I believe you can never be over prepared and that effective planning is key to any success.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I’d like to learn to throw knives.
What is one of your favorite places in the world and why?
Navarre Beach, Florida. I love the beach and I think this is one of the most beautiful and relaxing beaches on Santa Rosa Island. The sand is white like sugar and the water is emerald green and azure blue. It isn’t as crowded as Destin and it’s like a little piece of heaven on earth. It’s located about 25 miles from Pensacola on the Gulf of Mexico.
Describe yourself in five words.
