Tell us about your role at Vanguard.
In my role as communications associate at Vanguard, I support various clients and my Vanguard teammates with social and digital media efforts. Some of my responsibilities include writing blogs, copyediting, providing news research and creating media lists.
What do you hope for in the future of your professional career?
Not only do I want to do well in my career, but I also want to do good in the world. Through my studies at MSU and the public relations projects I've worked on in the past, I've learned that corporate social responsibility is attractive to me as an employee. I want to utilize my skills to communicate important facts and rhetoric surrounding climate change and environmental sustainability. Corporate social responsibility will be a guiding light as I maneuver my career.
You recently completed your third year at Michigan State University. What is the most important thing you have learned so far?
Self-reliance is a vital skill I've learned at MSU that will no doubt serve me well in my career. When you're in a 300-person lecture, self-reliance can become the difference between passing and failing. This has helped me become more flexible and organized when it comes to work assignments.
What spawned your interest in public relations?
I first learned about public relations from a communications professional at my first internship. I was conflicted in what major or minor I wanted to pursue, and she introduced me to the concept of public relations. As I started taking PR classes and attending PRSSA meetings, I became more excited about the possibilities this career could bring.
