Vanguard Public Affairs, a Lansing-based strategic communications and public affairs firm, is announcing the promotion of seasoned professional Beth Bowen as the firm’s Vice President.
“It seems like a dizzying pace, but I’m thrilled to have earned this promotion into the
role of Vice President at Vanguard Public Affairs,” Bowen said. “Being part of a leadership team that recognizes the contributions of all members is a dream job for me. I look forward to continuing to contribute to this team through hard work, creativity and vision.”
From financial services to manufacturing to utilities, Beth has communicated, trained and networked in work places large and small around the Lansing area for the past twenty years. As Vice President, Bowen attracts new business, manages client accounts, leads internal teams to produce results beyond expectations, shapes the content and messaging of Vanguard and its clients and spearheads strategic planning.
“Over the short amount of time Beth has been on the Vanguard team, she has displayed a wide range of skills and passion for the work our firm provides,” said Vanguard Public Affairs President and Managing Partner TJ Bucholz. “Beth is an enormous talent, and we’re thrilled to promote her to the Vice President position.”
In 2018, Beth left paid employment to run for state office. What she learned on the campaign trail ignited a passion to apply her skills to advocacy. With deep personal connections to public education, public health and women's reproductive freedom, Beth brings her experiences in technical writing and instructional design to bear on the need for clear, expansive — sometimes instructive — public relations for progressive issues.
“Teamwork is the hallmark of Vanguard. As a small firm, we all wear multiple hats. Through the tireless leadership of our President, TJ Bucholz, and the other members of the senior team, we Vanguardians are able to achieve stellar results for clients with our winning track record and work ethic,” Bowen said. “My contributions do not outweigh any others’ but add to our engines of success.”
Additionally, Vanguard’s own Helen Korneffel was recently promoted to a full-time Communications Manager position, following her graduation from Michigan State University on May 1, 2020. Korneffel began working at Vanguard in October 2019 on a part-time basis while she was in school. As Vanguard’s Communications Manager, Helen spearheads social media calendaring and content, public affairs projects, media relations and graphic design.
“We’ve had some impressive communications managers in the past at Vanguard Public Affairs, but Helen is a rock star,” Bucholz said. “I’m thrilled to showcase her talent as a full-time employee.”
Vanguard is also excited to announce the hiring of Ally Telfor as the firm’s summer associate. Ally is a rising senior at Michigan State University studying journalism and public relations. Ally has gained experience in corporate public relations as a special events intern at National Heritage Academies and as a public affairs intern at Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
